Navigation In Autocad
Navigation in Autocad is mainly done using the mouse (or trackpad).
Bottom line: I absolutely recommend getting a mouse to work with Autocad - the trackpad is limiting and will slow you down compared to using a mouse.
Regarding the mouse: You would want to get a mouse with a wheel (not a magic mouse) because the wheel allows you to zoom in & out.
2 Navigation commands:
Zoom: Using the wheel, you can zoom in & out.
Pan (hand tool): Allows you to hold and drag the drawing area (or paper area) by clicking and holding the wheel on the mouse.
Side note: You are able to Zoom & Pan while using a command.
